Sumida River Fireworks Festival: 2024 Fireworks Festival Details

Experience the timeless allure of the Sumida River Fireworks Festival 2024, Japan's oldest and most spectacular fireworks display dating back to the Edo period.

Overview of the Sumida River Fireworks Festival Experience

Sumida River Fireworks Festival

The fireworks display on the Sumida River is the oldest fireworks display in Japan on record and has been going on since the Edo period.

The Sumida River features first and second venues. A total of 20,000 fireworks illuminate the sky, establishing it as one of Japan's largest fireworks festivals.

Additionally, you can enjoy this fireworks display from a variety of locations, including paid seats, the surrounding riverbed, nearby restaurants and hotels, the Sky Tree, and Yakatabune.

I recommend viewing from a Yakatabune. The area around the venue on the day of the event is very crowded, and especially there is a long line in front of the washrooms.

In order not to end up lining up at the washroom for longer than watching the fireworks, it is better to drink in moderation.

However, the number of people on the Yakatabune is limited, so you can eat and drink while watching the fireworks without worrying about that.

Check out my Yakatabune recommendations from Yakatabune: Enjoy Japanese traditional culture in Tokyo
