About Omagari Fireworks Festival

Omagari Fireworks Festival, one of Japan's three major fireworks festivals, has a long history dating back to 1910 when it began as a sideshow for shrine festivals. With over 100 years of tradition, it continues to be a major attraction.

At this fireworks festival, fireworks artists from all over Japan compete to showcase their skills and aim to be the best in the country. Consequently, the festival offers the opportunity to witness the finest fireworks in Japan.

Additionally, the Omagari Fireworks Festival takes place not only in summer but also in spring and autumn. While the spring and autumn festivals are smaller in scale compared to the summer event, they are less crowded, allowing you to enjoy high-quality fireworks in a more relaxed setting.

Highlights of the Festival

Daytime Fireworks

Omagari Hanabi: Daytime hanabi

One of the highlights of the summer chapter of the Omagari Fireworks Festival is the daytime fireworks, which you can only see at this festival. Instead of lights, fireworks artists use colourful smoke to create vibrant displays.

Creative Fireworks

Omagari Hanabi

Creative fireworks, which follow a specific theme, were first introduced at the Omagari Fireworks Festival in 1964. At this festival, you can enjoy a captivating fusion of powerful fireworks and music.

Best Viewing Spots

The best way to enjoy the Omagari Fireworks Festival is from reserved seats inside the fireworks venue. However, since tickets are sold by lottery, I recommend the following locations if you don't secure one.

Hikario Parking Building

This location is about 1.4 km away from the fireworks venue, offering an unobstructed view perfect for capturing the entire fireworks display. Given its popularity, I recommend securing your spot before noon. Additionally, if you are driving, please note that due to traffic regulations, you won't be able to move your car from the parking area until after 24:00 once the fireworks festival ends.
