About Nagaoka Fireworks Festival
The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, one of Japan's three major fireworks festivals, takes place every year on August 2nd and 3rd in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture.
Originating in 1946 to commemorate those who died in air raids during World War II and to promote recovery, this fireworks display spans two days and attracts more than 1 million participants each year.
Highlights of the Festival
Huge fireworks with a diameter of 650 meters
One of the highlights of the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival is the massive fireworks, expanding to approximately 650 meters in diameter. The spectacle of these large fireworks blooming in the summer night sky with a resounding roar is truly breathtaking.
Phoenix fireworks praying for reconstruction
As the name suggests, gigantic fireworks are shot off at super high speed over a distance of about 2 kilometers, shining high in the sky like a phoenix. You can only experience these fireworks, which are so large that they don't fit in your field of vision, at the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival.
Best Viewing Spots
In order to enjoy the impressive fireworks at the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, I recommend purchasing reserved seats at the fireworks venue. However, these tickets are sold by lottery. If you are unable to secure a ticket, I also recommend considering the following locations.
